I have stain now. Brazilian Walnut is the color I picked. This first picture is the first coat. It's rather dull. It got 2 coats of stain and 3 coats of laquer. Hananh's holding her nose because the fumes were so strong, but a scrapper needs her pictures, fumes or no fumes!
The sky is gorgeous out here almost every day and I plan to take notice of it every day. 
I have to post the picture that I have our trim carpenter of the range hood...he just made it, just from looking at the picture. He is super talented. So lucky to have him as a sub.
Here we have the second coat, and it dries to a powder, so it looks a little powdery in some photos. 
First coat of laquer on the stair newel post and handrail. Three coats of laquer goes on here because of the oil on your hands and the traffic it will receive. 
Above sink cabinetsfirst coat of laquer on the fireplace and the brick.

I'm looking forward to that island too. there is nothing on it but prep space. No sink, no cooktop, no nothing. of course I'll have it decorated...
