Never judge a book by it's cover...

It's an adage that we are all familiar with; "Never judge a book by it's cover." I even taught an AWANA council time lesson on this important statement, of course I was referring to people and not to books.
So I bought this book, and I read the first couple of lines of the back of it and I just bought it, simply because of the cover, and because I have heard that this book has been getting rave reviews. You can read about them here: http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2010-01-14-buzz14_ST_N.htm
Plus, I had read this authors second book (not knowing this was his first), The End of The World As We Know It. I like his writing style, and judging by the title, and the couple of lines I read on the back of the book, I thought for sure this one was going to be a page turner...and it will be, I'm certain of it. But there is a funny story that I want to share about it.
I brought the book home, put it on the counter and was talking to Carl in the kitchen. He picked it up and asked me if it was my next read and I said yes. I elaborated and told him how it was a book about me, "A Reliable Wife", as the title so indicated. The book is all about me, I went on and on. So, he flips it over and reads the back. (Which, keep in mind, I had not read in its entirety). Here is what the back cover says:
"He placed an add in a Chicago Paper, an advertisement for a reliable wife. She responded, saying she was a 'simple, honest woman'. (this is where I quit reading). She was of course anything but honest, and the only simple thing about her, was her single minded determination to marry this man, then kill him, slowly and carefully, leaving her a wealthy widow.
To say Carl looked at me with one eyebrow raised is an understatement, meanwhile, I'm grinning like a possum, so happy about my profession of being a reliable wife. From now on, I'll read the whole back cover before I go popping off about how it's "all about me". Let me know if you read it and if you like it.

in a footnote, I just want to say that this is not a Christian Fiction book and it is a rather passionate one. :)

We read this last month in book club. I thought it was weird but really good!

yeah, double naratives are sometimes hard for me to follow Jill, but I think I'm going to like it.

and the main character is a pervert.

Ok, I warn you, this book is a little weird, very passionate, full of suggested sexual activity and perversion but very suspensful. :)

I laughed out loud...because I have done that. I read so much and pick up so many books just because I like the cover.
