From The Ground Up.....

Well, you have to start somewhere & even though we have a loooong way to go with this house, it was so exciting to actually drive up and see a sold sign on the lot and see a foundation poured. (the rain also poured the entire time we were there so I didn't get to tramp around on the slab like I wanted.) To actually think this house used to be in my head, and then it was on paper, and now the bottom of it, the beginnings of it are actually on the ground. By tomorrow evening, the first walls will be going up and I'm giddy with excitement. It almost feels like Christmas. If you all get sick of hearing about all this, I apologize in advance...but you only get to build your dream house once...and I don't want to forget a second of it.

Where the "ramp thingy" is, well that's suppose to be the front porch. Use your imagination!

Then we headed to the neighborhood/Builder's model home to decide on and measure doors. I took a lot of pictures for future reference.... I had to laugh at the picture above...it's the LAUNDRY ROOM...oh yeah, this will sell the model home to any woman...a laundry room with no washer and dryer...I can see myself in the laundry room sitting in this fancy chair painting my toenails or something. I think they went a little overboard in this house. You can't see the house for the stuff. I'm not sure if they're actually selling the house or the stuff in the house come to think of it, or both!
I love the brick around the cook top and that little alcove on the right and left of it. That's the perfect place for spices, oil etc...
Not crazy about the fireplace..it looks a little 80's to me...but it is the same stone from the outside of the house. they should've went with brick. Oh well, I came to look at the doors, not critique the masonry work.
These are our doors. I don't think I'll be doing this Fruit wood stain though, but the Alder wood, V-groove, Curve top 8ft door is the reason we actually went to the model home again to begin with. We couldn't decide if the doors looked too country or not. I think if you stain them the right way, and put the right hardware on them, that they can look elegant. Wish me luck. They are HEAVY...so I hope I never slam my finger in the door.

Hannah had no problem making herself comfortable while we measured doorways & doors.

Just for giggles, I stretched out on this bearskin rug in the office of the model home. Who really has one of those? The builder also owns Furniture Galleria & Accessory World in OKC, so this model home is one big showroom. You can see their cool stuff here: http://www.galleriaokc.com/.
The funniest part of the day, was when we first got to the model home, the builder had given Carl the code for the security system, and he punched it in and then hit "stay" instead of "end" to disarm it and so..yep, he set off the alarm. I was plugging my ears and trying really hard to not laugh at my technologically challenged husband. Off to pick lights.....

I love that brick in the kitchen and you are right about the fireplace...late 80's/early 90's - or maybe it is back in and I didn't realize it :).

@ Destiny, I should've corrected my journaling...that was actually a cowskin rug, which sounds way weird to me.
