Where the Buffalo Roam...

I can only imagine what Lewis & Clark, or the Indians for that matter,
thought when they first laid eyes on the Wyoming/Yellowstone area and all the buffalo/bison. There is something majestic about seeing these guys in their large herds in their natural habitat...not in a petting zoo or in a cage along the side of the road (in Oklahoma), but in their GOD given natural habitat doing their habitat thing. It was really a sight to behold. On one hand they are truly in the wild and on the other hand, they are so accustomed to the 3 million yearly visitors to Yellowstone that they they just carry on around you like you aren't even there. I won't forget the Buffalo/Bison. What's the difference between a buffalo and a bison? Nothing. :-) Some of these pictures you have to click on to see them full size....they are a sight to behold!

A baby buffalo...looks like calf don't you think?

These guys were running...the herd was crossing the road and they were trying to catch up...it has just rained, it was cool, and like horses they were being frisky.

You have to feel for this guy...he's trying to rub off his winter coat on this guard rail. Their winter hair is just hanging off them is huge hunks. It must feel marvelous, because his eyes look to be rolled back in his head. After I took the picture, he gave me the buffalo "bird"...threw his head at me as if to say, "go on, you got your picture, leave me be or I'm going to charge". I left.

The road is sometimes the preferred method of travel, even for the buffalo.

This fella was taking a morning stroll. Why is he not with a herd? We learned that at a certain age, the male buffalo have to leave the herd and form a herd of their own. There can only be one boss.
