There are many definitions of "going green", if you Google it. I even have a T-shirt that says "Green is the NEW Black" and I love it. Going "green" can mean anything from recycling, to reusing, to doing whatever you can to be environmentally friendly. I've never really given it much thought actually... I mean, I recycle cans with the best of them, but as far as "totally going green", I probably never could. In Yellowstone, they are big on the environment of course, for obvious reasons...they are a National Forest after all, but they even recycle and compost all paper plates, forks, cups, napkins etc...everything is bio-degradeable, and they have special compost piles for each thing. I was rather impressed with this, especially in a day when convenience is at the top of every one's list. They even only feed their horses certified "weed free" (100%) hay, to prevent any unwanted weeds from invading the park. Recently, I found a show on HGTV called....ummm, I can't remember, but I watch is a lot. Anyway, it's on building houses "green". Actually adding a contraption (that costs $200) to your water system, that causes "gray" water (bath/sink water) to filter and then dump in your toilets as the water you flush with. What a brilliant idea...it saves 60K gallons of water a year for the average household. Also, you can make your gray water go out in your sprinkler system as well...this one we are definitely looking into doing in our final house. So, I was wondering...what do you all do to "go green" for your family, or am I the only weirdo who thinks about it now-days? Also, what a great time to post a picture of our "going green" barn picnic table. Two of our very talented barn members built it from scrap wood scavenged from the neighborhood building sites. The only thing we purchased was stain. Kudos to these talented guys (Paul and Papa Joe) for making this 16 ft picnic table for nothing! Not to mention, it's a cool place to sit and chat and EAT, which we've been doing a lot of lately....so tell me, how do you go "green"?

Hmmm...I can't say I do alot. I do try and put my potted plants out to catch rain, try and be conscious of my water consumption (especially when brushing teeth and rinsing dishes for the dishwasher) and am constantly turning off lights, turning on fans and turning the AC up.
So, I don't do much but I try (and it helps us out financially, too).
I don't really. That's Ethan's new favorite color though!
Living in Germany has really forced us to "get green". We recycle EVERYTHING. We only have garbage pick up every 2 weeks and our trash can only holds about 4 kitchen bags. We really stand out as Americans on recycling day. Plastics have to go in big yellow bags. They are collected 1x a month. So our German neighbors have a bag or two. Americans have about 12. American products are packaged so differently and with so much waste. We use cloth bags for grocery shopping, filters for water conservation, Arbonne products for our bodies - organic this & that. We now even have a car that is earth friendly. I hope that when we return stateside we can maintain our "green" habits.
I do something but I know I can be better.
Germany Jen, you people are trashy! :-)
I know I could do better, but actually since moving here, I've gotten lazy about it. When we lived in MA, "Going Green" was huge.
kelly - you so punny. I was thinking of you when I had Morgan crawl in the paper bin & jump so we could make more room in there.
You know, we're the only people on the street who can't close their garbage can and now the lid is hanging off by a thread. We're trashy too...
