Fireplace Inspiration....

I'm always looking for inspiration and ideas, whether it's for a scrapbook page or a redecorating idea for a room. When we started building this house, I began scoping out everyone else's house for ideas to use in my own. You might recognize this fireplace as Mark & Amy's. (Surprise Amy!) I took the picture one night when Hannah was over swimming. I love the way the brick goes vertical instead of horizontal on the face of it. It was just different enough for me to want to duplicate it. Below is the beginning of my fireplace about 4 days ago. I thought that was an awful lot of brick fanning out at first, but the next picture shows how the trim guy comes in after the brick masons and cover a lot of the brick with the mantle and woodwork. The next day we had the beginnings of the Mantle and the start of the columns down the side...and i was a little disappointed, because this looked awful straight to me and it was suppose to have a curve in it to match the arches adjacent to it in the room...so I just waited to see...what would happen...and then today....I had this...A mantle with egg &dart moulding but you can't see it in the picture unless you click and enlarge it. And ta-da, there's my curve I wanted and corbels. I love it. I like how it all came together and I can't wait to see how the stain looks against the brick. I'm assuming something else goes up at the top, but I don't know what, crown moulding I guess...but the top is wired for a flat screen, which we will get when our regular TV dies. We thought ahead. Until then I'll cover the outlets with a picture and put my auto-lite QVC candles up there that everyone makes fun of!
