A Place of our own...

When you're a military family, you don't really have a place of your own...at least not for any extended period of time. It's an apartment rental in the beginning, then you upgrade to a rental home(where you might can personalize with paint or other minor things), then you move on base, (where you can't personalize at all!) , then you progress to owning your first home (I posted those pictures last week, but yet, even though, still, in the back of your mind, you're thinking "this is only temporary as well". It's hard to really get settled anywhere, because in the back of your mind, you know a move is coming. When we bought our property in 2004, we had essentially decided that we were in love with Oklahoma, and that we would someday return here, to this very property and build our retirement home. It was a big deal for us, as it would be for anyone.

We began immediate improvements to the property, Carl cleared out around the pond and made a path all the way around, through the bamboo. Hannah often accompanied him on these excavations...you'll see a picture of her riding her "horse" by the pond. It was a huge branch that grew straight out close to the ground. The leaf from the fountain grass was the feather in her headdress. She was an Indian princess. We flew kites there, went fishing there, took walks there; basically any time we wanted to get away and remind ourselves that there was and end to all the moving and uncertainty, we'd go to the land. I couldn't believe it was ours, but I could imagine our house right up on top of that knoll (where the big hay bale is)...where you can see for endless miles. (plus the watertower across the street had "CDW" on it...Carl's initials)

Once we moved here, we discovered that the district lines were not exactly how we were told they were. The land is in the wrong school district for Hannah, at least for middle school, which is maybe more important than high school. So, we regretfully put it up for sale about a year ago almost, and have had lots of calls, but no serious bites yet. Probably because we haven't seriously advertised it yet. I think deep down, Carl still wants to keep it, and still wants it to be the final place. So how many horses do you need anyway, to eat 10 acres of marvelous pasture grass? Who knows, we may end up there anyway...I could home school...NOT!

What a beautiful piece of land! So tell me...what school district is it in? What school do you want? That would be so hard to sell it!

It is El Reno schools...and banner elementary, which goes to the 8th grade, which means she'd go from elementary right to high school. cringe...although, I went to an elementary school like that and it was a shock going to high school from elementary, where things are just different.

What you wrote it is totaly true.
We stared leaving in an apartament in Hawaii, then we moved on base in Biloxi,MS and then tired of base housing we decided to buy our first house but the true is that I don't want to invest on it because i know for sure that we will move next year.
But going back to you I guess your heart is settle in Oklahoma and you should go for it.
