Meet Magic...AKA "Magic Man". He joined us at the barn a month ago, and has been in the quarantine paddock. His owner moved him into the pasture with Star and Bella (remember her, the white horse with the silly personality?) on Thursday night. Just as my horse savvy friend Melissa predicted, Bella immediately began trying to prevent Star from bonding with Magic. You see, Bella has this peculiar behaviour when it comes to Star...she herds her around...we think that she thinks Star is her baby...just because Star is so much smaller than her. Star put up with her odd behaviour, but when Magic entered the picture, it became an obsession. Bella wouldn't even let Star near the water trough. After the lights went out that night...the fireworks in the pasture began. The next morning, Magic had to be moved back to quarantine to escape the wrath of Bella. He had several wounds and was sweaty, scared and breathless from being chased all night by Bella.
Bella needed an attitude adjustment, and we thought the best place to get that was in some other horses pasture...where she was the new kid on the block. Needless to say, it worked wonderfully. Rocket and Lady did a good job of bringing Bella down a notch or two, and she's gotten a taste of her own medicine the past few days. She has a few wounds of her own, but eventually, she'll accept the fact that she doesn't always have to be in charge.
Now, onto what this post is really about (note the music playing). With "the other woman" out of the picture, Star and Magic were given a proper introduction, and to say it was "Love At First Sight" would be a tremendous understatement. They g0t along perfect...no nips, no squeals, no bites, no kicks, no drama. They just looked at each other, put their noses together and proceeded to graze . A few minutes later, Star thought it would be a good idea to let Magic know that she was indeed in heat...what perfect timing on her part..(google it if you want to know the details of horse-ology and communication). We observed for a few minutes, then we turned off the lights and gave them their privacy. The next morning, they were a couple. A match made in heaven indeed....Carl was at the barn before me the next morning, and I called him to see how the lovebirds were doing...he said they both looked like they needed a cigarette. He can be funny if he wants to be. :-)
