Well, I'm alive to blog about it! For those of you who don't know...I LOVE to go camping...I'm a camper girl, not a tent kind of girl. If it hadn't been for the severe thunderstorms that were rolling through this morning, we were going to attend chapel at the campsite and then head home this afternoon. We had to cut camping short and come home this morning and I've been doing laundry ever since! I'm on load 4 or 5 and have at least that many to go...dirty clothes, dirty linens and towels, along with dog and duck laundry as well.
We had a blast. It was a small group endeavor (Family Ties) and there were about 10 families in all who went, and too many kids to count. We are the largest "small group" in our church and apparently the most fertile as well! (except for me of course!). I got 4 scrapbook pages done;sampled my first craw fish; made Jiffy Pop on the campfire for the first time in several decade's; ate more marshmallows than I thought was humanly possible(or so I thought); learned to play Mexican Train domino's (my new favorite game);read half of a great book by Jodi Piccoult (Change of Heart); played volleyball 'til I couldn't breath; rode uphill on my bike until I almost threw up;slept like a baby (except for the first night);took one cold shower (because there was no hot water in the bath house) and 2 hot ones;huddled around the campfire every early morning with all my dearest friends here and just was myself. I love these people; they love me for who I am, and I don't know what I'd do without them or the support of this church. It's one thing to see each other once a week in Sunday School/Small Group, but to be together 24 hrs. a day for 4 days straight..its was eyeopening for me in a good way. Here's how...you see each other once a week in your Sunday best, nails done, hair fixed, heels on, lipstick and all the trimmings...sometimes it's hard to get to the real people for the stuff that makes us all different...but around the campfire, first thing in the morning, no makeup, some in pajamas, some in sweats, every one's hair was sticking up, not just mine...I'm not the only one who must have caffeine upon rising, morning breath does not just erupt from my husbands body, every one's kids disobey and need correcting...these people are human like me, totally approachable, totally where I am in my life. It was great and I can't wait to do it again. Here are a few shots that are memorable from our weekend.

Wow, your time sounded great! I would love to go camping too, I was so jealous when Ken told me where Mark and you all were going to be, we wanted to crash your party! Love the pics, hmmm...the one of Amy and Sheryl with the bikes, too cute! And I can't believe you did the crawfish thing, really? I'm standing my ground on that one no matter how long I'm in this state :)
You ate crawfish???!!!
I'm so bummed we didn't come out. Mexican Train Dominoes is our favorite game in the world. Love it!
I know...Family Ties is the best Small Group. By far. Another thing that makes this all so hard. :(
Well, first, someone I think it was Amy walked up to me with a peeled or dug out crawfish, and basically crammed it in my mouth. I had no choice. I actually thought it tasted a lot like shrimp; the spices made it good, if you dont' look at where it comes from. That picture of the pan of crawfish...Mark ate the whole thing and went back for seconds. There were 100 pounds of those things. Second, I am so glad I now have a partner for Mexican Train...carl hates Games...want to play anyone? Wait, guess I need to buy some first, and you all should have crashed us, some people came up just for the day on Saturday...
How fun!! I loved seeing pictures of everyone. I'm going to have to show Ethan. He told me the other day that he wanted to look at Mrs. Cheryl's blog.
This is great! You are right...a small group is about more than just Sunday mornings. I love that ya'll were able to do this. I LOVE Mexican Train dominoes. I'll play but I might need a refresher.

We had a BLAST!!! And YES; I forced a crawfish down Kelly's throat!! This kiddos all had the best time ever I think!!!

Looks like a fun weekend! I know what you mean about being up close and personal with you s.g. members. At church everyone always seeems all put together, problem-free, and perfect!! It's nice to know you're not the only on with real life going on!
