Better Late Than Never....

It's no secret; I played with dolls until I was 12 or 13. Is it too much to ask that your daughter also play with dolls? You know, the whole "reliving your childhood" thing. I couldn't wait. I bought Hannah her first doll right before she turned one...and two...and three...and four...and she hated them. She had the cool doll that moved it's eyes...blinked...moved its mouth to drink from a bottle...it cooed...I was so excited. The problem was that she was NOT. Once in a blue moon, she'd push her doll around in the stroller and I'd think..."Oh, here it comes, she's going to start playing with dolls...I can play too". But nooo00...it was always short lived. It was inevitable; she'd park the stroller for model horses; and turn her cradle into a barn with stalls underneath...ah...oh well. So, all her dolls, clothes, and accessories are in our storage unit in Oklahoma. I couldn't see bringing them here...we didn't have room and let's face it, if it doesn't have a mane, tale and four legs...she wasn't going to give it the time of day....until a week ago. ...here's what happened...

I had ordered an Operation Christmas Child CD for my girls to watch in T&T on Wednesday. We were packing shoe boxes for the underprivileged...and I wanted the girls to actually SEE children receiving the shoe boxes...to put a face to the person who might be receiving their box. One little girl got a baby doll in her box and to say she was ecstatic would be an understatement. She said that she'd always dreamed of having her very own doll. We finished the video, packed our boxes and went home.
The next day at Target, Hannah bought a doll with her report card money .She has carried "Cynthia" EVERYWHERE since. I have made a big ole' hairy deal out of it too...I'm ecstatic that she's playing with this doll, I mean you have no idea...I was beginning to wonder if she'd ever want children at all! Above and below are pictures of Cynthia from this past week. She's been in the car, to Applebees...to the barn; everywhere. OK, so where is this story going? Well you see, I am now a grandmother. Monday when Hannah went to school, she left me in charge of Cynthia. She left me a detailed list...(I know how you all love her lists) of what to do for Cynthia while she was at school. Read the list. OK, so I put Hannah on the school bus and come 3:00 my alarm went off and it hit me that I hadn't taken care of Cynthia all day...she would know that I was not taking her seriously! So I ran to her room, grabbed the doll, ripped off her clothes, redressed her in the outfit last stated on the list, and positioned her on the couch on a blanket. Just in time for Hannah to come home and find that I'd been the doting grandmother all day. Enjoy!

I was smiling the whole time...I love it!! That is so sweet that she is loving this doll! Emma Kate plays with dolls off and on--not like Barbies though. I push the idea, too. I think I enjoy playing with them more than she does. :)

I love it! How's it feel to be a grandmother? Maybe I should send one of my girly-girls over to your house. When they get new dolls they immediately strip them down. Clothes never seem to reappear again. It would make your grandmother duties much easier...LOL
