And the Madness Begins!

Lot #4
We made the first of many trips to OKC this weekend to pick out brick and stone for our house, and to stake off our lot and verify the exact angle of the house on the lot.
They say that if your marriage can survive the building of a house, that it can survive anything, and if this weekend if any indication of how the next few months are going to go..then I agree with that statement 110%. I want to document the entire process..i want to scrapbook it too, but I know i wont' get to that until later, so I'm counting on this blog to keep me tuned in to the details and I'm counting on you guys to help me out with advice...you'll be seeing paint chips on here, faucets, light fixtures, windows...I'll need HELP!!
After lunch at Hannah's favorite OKC spot, Chicken Express, we hit the ground running choosing brick.
First stop, Trinity brick, where we saw all the brick we'd been looking at online, and soon discovered that NONE of it looked like it did online. The ones we liked online...we hated in the store. The brick we didn't like, we ended up liking.
Our first choice was Blend #33 below: We loved it at first glance, but we weren't sure that it was the right color of brick for our style of house.
Our second choice was Blend #44 below:
Which one did we choose?
Next we went to Richburg stone yard which was really intimidating. Piles and piles of stone as far as the eye can see! Well, maybe not that far, but it was a lot. They had sample walls about 5 ft long adn 4 ft high of all their stone. They had one sample dry stacked and one sample with mortar. We narrowed it down to two...the first one will take your breath away...you'll be like...ewwww, but we saw it on a house with our brick and it looked great...here it is...
Fieldstone
Our second choice (and the one we chose is below):
and was it over? No, then we had to decide whether to use mortar or to dry stack the stone. We decided to dry stack because the stone has so many colors in it, we coudn't decide on a mortar, so I guess we wimped out...but the dry stacked look is cool.
Here's how it looks together.
So how'd we do? I guess we'll see in about a month....

I can't wait to pick out our brick! Of course we have to do it all online because we can't get to Georgia until after bricking time. I love both of those brick choices. I think the first one more...it's more dramatic, but then I'm such a very neutral persomn and I love the classic, neutral look of the second. So in essence, I'm no help!

Can't wait to see all the progress!

Yikes! I don't think I could build a house. I totally CAN.NOT make those kind of decisions. I can't even figure out what kind of curtains I like muchless brick but I like your choices! I'm sure your house will be beautiful!

it's just hard to visualize Angela, and after a while it all starts to look ALIKE! It's kind of like smelling candles, after a while they all smell the same, and you just want to pick one. I hope that's not what we did. It took 5 hours, I think we really did try!

Candy the floorplan is on my table. Carl prays over it every morning...he won't let me roll it up, so you are welcome to come look anytime.
